Manchester United star Daley Blind is hoping to become a leader of men like his father Danny Blind was during his playing days.

Louis van Gaal, current Manchester United manager, managed Danny Blind at Ajax and made him the captain of the team that lifted the Champions League in 1995.

Van Gaal said last week that the former Dutch international was one of the best leaders he has ever worked with in his career.

Danny’s son Daley, who joined Van Gaal’s Manchester United this summer, admits that his father is a tough act to follow.

He added that he still has age on his side and will hopefully learn to become a leader at his new club like his father was at Ajax.

"I read that", Daley told the club’s official site, when asked about the boss' comments.

"I hope I become maybe a bit of the leader he was. I am still young and can improve on that.

"Also this is a new era for me and I have come to a new area.

"But I know myself that I can be [a leader]. I have to learn it and have to keep it up. I am still learning every day."

Danny joined Ajax from Sparta Rotterdam in 1986 and won five Dutch league titles, four Dutch cups, a Champions League crown, a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, a UEFA Cup, a UEFA Super Cup and an Intercontinental Cup with the club.

He assisted Van Gaal during his second stint with the Dutch national team and continued his role under Guus Hiddink. He is slated to take over as the head coach of the Netherlands once Hiddink retires.
