Arsenal and Inter Milan target Lorenzo Insigne is set to sign a new five-year contract with Napoli.

Insigne’s performances in Italy last season brought him into the attention of some of the top clubs across Europe, but Napoli managed to hold onto him this summer.

Both Arsenal and Inter Milan kept track of developments in Naples and were keen to snare him away from Napoli. However, a deal never happened and Insigne remained at the club.

The 23-year-old’s current contract will expire in 2018, but Napoli are set to offer new terms to extend the deal until 2019, according to Sky Italia.

A further extension would strengthen Napoli’s position in the transfer market should either Arsenal or Inter make a move for him in January or next summer.

The new contract is expected to be formalised once club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis returns from his US trip.

The 23-year-old has clocked up 103 appearances for Napoli, scoring 15 goals and providing 20 assists.
