Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has backed manager Walter Mazzarri despite the Italian giants’ slow start to their Serie A season.

The Nerazzurri, who lost 4-1 to Cagliari in late September, succumbed to another 3-0 loss at the hands of Fiorentina at the weekend.

The consecutive defeats meant Inter Milan dropped to 10th spot in Serie A with just eight points from six games, 10 points adrift of leaders Juventus.

However Thohir, who gave Mazzarri his vote of confidence, believes his side will improve over the course of the competitive season.

"The defeats to Cagliari and Fiorentina have shaken us a little bit", the president told the club's official site.

"But I am convinced that the will is there from everyone to improve.

"The Italian league is extremely competitive and that is why some patience is needed. We need to analyse the situation that the team is going through.

"Mazzarri will do his best for Inter and we will grant him the opportunity to do so. The coach continues to have our trust.”

Thohir went on to add that he feels the ongoing international break has come at a good time for Inter Milan as it will give his side the opportunity to analyse their present condition.

"We hope that the international break will be useful to evaluate the situation. The players now need to have a period of introspection in order to prepare for the next match in the best way possible", he continued.

Inter Milan will next face sixth-placed Napoli at the San Siro on 19th October.
