Sunderland failed with an approach for Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda in the summer transfer window, with the France international not convinced by the Black Cats.

Mandanda was hoping for a switch to a top ten Premier League club over the summer, however the only approach from England which came the goalkeeper's way was from Sunderland.

However Mandanda, who serves as Hugo Lloris' deputy with the France national team, was not keen on joining Sunderland, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

The custodian also received an approach from Russian Premier League side Dynamo Moscow, but was not seduced by that destination either.

It remains to be seen if Mandanda will rethink his position at the Stade Velodrome when the transfer window opens again in January.
