Alessandro Del Piero is excited about the Indian Super League and expects the tournament to give football in India impetus.

Earlier this year the legendary Italian forward ended his sojourn with Sydney FC and joined ISL’s Delhi Dynamos as their marquee player.




The likes of Nicolas Anelka, Marco Materazzi, Fredrik Ljungberg and Robert Pires have also signed up for the inaugural edition of the tournament.

The tournament is slated to start this Sunday with Atletico de Kolkata taking on Mumbai City FC at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
 


Del Piero is very excited about the new project and is eager to contribute his bit for the development of Indian football.

The Italian feels India have a lot of untapped potential and the ISL will give football in India impetus.

“I am very excited about everything involving the project”, Del Piero said to his official site.

“Three days before the start of the tournament, I am enveloped with a great sense of anticipation and enthusiasm.

“This tournament is meant to give football in India impetus, a country which is home to the third oldest cup competition, established in 1888, the Durand Cup."

The ISL is the brainchild of the All India Football Federation and its commercial partner IMG Reliance.
