Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that there were problems between Jose Mourinho and the Real Madrid players towards the end of the Portuguese’s reign at the club.

Mourinho left Los Blancos at the end of the 2012/13 season after a three-year spell at the club and there was speculation that he lost the dressing room towards the end of his reign at the Bernabeu.

Ancelotti took over from the Portuguese and delivered the Champions League in his first season with Los Merengues.

However, the Italian revealed that before joining the club he knew about the problems that existed between Mourinho and the Real Madrid players.

He added that during his reign he has not faced any such issues within the dressing room.

“I knew before arriving that there were problems in the dressing room between Mourinho and some of the players”, Ancelotti told French magazine So Foot.

“But when I took command of the team everything was back to normal and everything was calm again.”

Ancelotti did make the controversial decision to favour Diego Lopez in the league over club captain Iker Casillas last season, but the Italian said that both custodians respected his decision.

“As for the competition between Casillas and Diego Lopez, both respected my choice and the change never affected the results.”
