Lille striker Divock Origi admits that recent comments by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers are a "great compliment" for him and insists he knew the Northern Irishman wanted him at Anfield this season.

Rodgers snapped up Origi from Lille this summer, but due to the terms of the deal the Belgium international returned to his former club to spend the season on loan.

The Liverpool boss has since commented that Origi is good enough to play for Liverpool now and he would very much like to be able to call upon the 19-year-old.

Origi is delighted with Rodgers' words, but overall feels he is better served by continuing his development with Lille for a further season.

"I take Rodgers' statements as a great compliment", Origi told AFP.
