Newcastle United striker Siem de Jong feels his recovery from a torn tendon in his thigh is going well, but has dubbed the injury "nasty".

De Jong joined Newcastle from Ajax in the summer, but has been forced to watch his team-mates toil on the sidelines due to his injury blow.

The Dutchman will be out injured until January and admits it is frustrating not to be able to help a team in need.

"It's going well. I feel good, but it's a nasty injury", he told Ajax's official site.

"That's why I hate it even more", he added, in response to Newcastle struggling and boss Alan Pardew having handed him the vice-captaincy.

"You want to help the team and I can't do that now."

De Jong is happy he can help his countrymen off the pitch though, with the Magpies also boasting Dutchmen Vurnon Anita, Tim Krul and Daryl Janmaat.

"I support the other Dutch guys.

"That is good."
