Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has revealed that his club would like to see a tribute to Lionel Messi if he can break Telmo Zarra's La Liga record during El Clasico on 25th October.

Zarra, a former Athletic Bilbao player, currently holds the record with 251 goals in 271 La Liga matches.

The Argentine number ten presently has 249, just two behind Zarra, and there is a possibility that he might reach the record during his team's match at the Santiago Bernabeu against rivals Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old insists that Messi deserves "some sort of acknowledgement" for the amount of effort he has put in for the club and therefore staging a tribute would be one way of recognising his contribution.

"He deserves some sort of acknowledgement", Zubizarreta told Esport3.

"I'd settle for him scoring against Eibar and Real and us winning both games.

"We've seen the Bernabeu applaud Barca players in the past and vice-versa."

The Catalan giants are currently leading La Liga's charts with 19 points from seven matches and play Eibar this week followed by a match against Real Madrid the following Saturday.
