Netherlands winger Arjen Robben was left frustrated and disappointed following his side’s 2-0 loss to Iceland in a 2016 European Championship qualifier last night.

Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring from the spot in the 10th minute before doubling his side’s advantage on the brink of the half-time break.

The Swansea City midfielder’s brace in Reykjavík handed the Netherlands their second defeat in the qualification campaign.

Guus Hiddink’s side are currently third in Group A with three points from as many games, six adrift of the Czech Republic and Iceland, who occupy first and second positions respectively.

And Robben, who labelled the defeat a “difficult loss”, called on the Oranje to be self-critical.

“Very disappointing. It was a difficult loss because now we have to chase two teams”, he told UEFA’s official site.

“We needed to win this game and it is frustrating the way we gave it away.

“Of course it was difficult for us, but we need to be very critical of ourselves because we gave away the two goals as presents.

“After that it became even harder because they defended and looked to counterattack.”

The Netherlands, who started their qualification campaign with a 2-1 loss to the Czech Republic last month before defeating Kazakhstan 3-1 at the weekend, will next face Mexico in a friendly on 11th November.
