Roma are taking decisive action to ensure they do not lose midfielder Kevin Strootman to Manchester United.

The Red Devils are known to want to take the Dutchman to Old Trafford, where countryman Louis van Gaal is a firm admirer of his talents.

Roma continue to insist Strootman is not for sale, but a lucrative contract offer from Manchester United, plus the chance to work with Van Gaal, could tempt the midfielder.

And the Giallorossi are doing their best to make sure such a scenario does not unfold.

According to Italian daily Il Messaggero, Roma are preparing a new contract offer for Strootman, which would see his salary head upwards significantly.

At present Strootman takes home around €33,000 per week, having joined the Giallorossi from PSV Eindhoven last summer.

Roma now want to increase that and in so doing send a signal that Strootman will not be leaving the Italian capital for Manchester United.

The midfielder is still injured, but could return to action by the end of next month.
