AC Milan midfielder Michael Essien has compared Filippo Inzaghi’s coaching style with current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Essien played under Ancelotti in his time at Chelsea and the Italian is also a revered figure at AC Milan after he masterminded two Champions League triumphs at the club in 2003 and 2007.

AC Milan failed to qualify for European football last season under Clarence Seedorf and the club turned to Inzaghi to lift the sagging fortunes of the club in Italy and in Europe.

Essien is enjoying playing under the former Italian international and explained that Inzaghi allows his players to express themselves on the pitch, which resembles Ancelotti’s coaching style.

“I really like him as a coach”, the Ghanaian told Sky Italia.

“He wants us to entertain and express ourselves on the pitch and this inspires us to give our best.

“I have played under many coaches in my career and Inzaghi reminds me of Ancelotti, who trained me at Chelsea. He also allowed his players to express themselves on the pitch and I think it is the right thing to do.”

AC Milan have made a steady start to the season and are currently sitting in fifth in Serie A on eleven points.
