Fabio Borini's agent says he knew of Inter's interest in his client over the summer, after Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio went public with the club's attempt to sign the Italian.

Ausilio told Italian daily Tuttosport: "I like Borini, but he would leave Liverpool only for a nice sum of money. We made an attempt in the summer, but then we signed [Pablo] Osvaldo, who was [Walter] Mazzarri's first choice."

Borini's agent, Marco De Marchi, has revealed he was fully aware of Inter's attempt to sign his client, who he continues to regard as a player in the top echelon of forwards. And the player's representative is "proud" of interest from the Nerazzurri.

"[Inter’s] estimation we like, it makes us proud", De Marchi told Tutto Mercato.

"I was clearly aware of the interest, but it's a pleasure for Ausilio to say so publicly.

"I knew of Inter's interest and that of other teams and I repeat, Fabio is a first rank player and right now he is trying to carve out a spot at Liverpool."

Liverpool accepted offers from both Sunderland and QPR for Borini over the summer, but the former Roma star opted against joining either Premier League outfit.
