Newcastle United have confirmed that goalkeeper Tim Krul has suffered ligament damage to his left shoulder.

The Dutch international, who was on the bench during the Netherlands’ 3-1 win over Kazakhstan in a 2016 European Championship qualifier on Friday, flew straight to Newcastle after picking up the injury in training the following day.

Krul was assessed by the Magpies’ medical staff and underwent a scan on Monday, and as a result missed his nation’s 2-0 loss to Iceland the same day.

The 26-year-old will now be further assessed by Newcastle’s medical team ahead of the club’s Premier League fixture against Leicester City at St. James' Park on Saturday.

Krul’s employers are yet to win a league game this season and presently find themselves in 18th spot with just four points from seven fixtures.

Newcastle will be hoping for the custodian’s early recovery as Krul has been one of the club’s most reliable performers in the present campaign.
