Roma want to increase Kevin Strootman's yearly salary to €4m in a bid to finally end any chance of the Dutchman moving to Manchester United.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is a firm fan of Strootman and is monitoring his return from a cruciate knee ligament injury picked up in March.

Roma have grown concerned at the consistent chatter suggesting Manchester United want to sign the midfielder and are worried his head may be turned by the prospect of playing his football at Old Trafford under Van Gaal.

The Giallorossi want Strootman to extend his contract until 2019 to end all worries over an exit and will reward him handsomely for doing so.

Indeed, according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Roma's offer to Strootman will be of a wage packet worth €4m per year.

Last season's Serie A runners-up are also set to impress upon Strootman how vital he is for their future plans.

Roma intend to build their team around a spine which includes Strootman bossing the midfield.

It remains to be seen if Strootman will accept the offer or whether Manchester United will be discouraged.
