Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that John Stones underwent successful ankle surgery on Monday.

The centre-back picked up the injury during the Toffees’ 2-1 loss to Manchester United before the international break and is expected to be out for eight to 10 weeks.

However Martinez, who admitted that he is eagerly waiting for Stones to become fully fit again, explained that he is pleased with the 20-year-old’s recovery process.

"John had his surgery on Monday and it was very successful”, he explained in a press conference this morning.

"Now we are starting to look at counting the days until he will be fully fit again.
