New Schalke boss Roberto Di Matteo believes that his team need to move "step by step" in order to improve on their current situation.

The former Chelsea manager was appointed the boss at the Veltins-Arena this month after former manager Jens Keller was sacked following a poor start to the season.

Die Knappen are currently placed 11th in the Bundesliga table with eight points from seven matches and have conceded 12 goals while scoring only eleven.

Di Matteo though insists that a drastic improvement won't be possible and is keen on working on a few things in terms of organisation.

“We have to take it step by step to get better bit by bit. We can’t do everything at once”, Di Matteo told his club's official site.

“We have a lot of potential going forward but we’ll have to work on a few things in terms of organisation."

The 44-year-old also took time to talk about the general mood around the club, revealing that the players are keen to move up the table as soon as possible.

“The boys aren’t happy with our amount of points so far. We want to move up the table as quickly as possible.”

Schalke will host Hertha Berlin next on Saturday, followed by a Champions League fixture against Sporting Lisbon on 21st October.
