Michel Platini has backed a fresh vote on the 2022 World Cup if charges of corruption are proven.

The 2018 and the 2022 World Cups were awarded to Russia and Qatar by the FIFA Executive Committee in December 2010 after a vote.

However, charges of corruption have been levelled against FIFA and it is believed that the governing body are under pressure to reconsider their decision on the 2022 World Cup hosting rights.

Last month they received the findings of an inquiry into the votes by FIFA's ethical commission, but they have refused to make the report public.

Platini, who himself voted for Qatar, said that he believed that the process was transparent, but backed a fresh vote if corruption charges are proven.

"As far as I'm concerned, the vote was held in all transparency and we've always said that in the event of the slightest hint of corruption there'll be a new vote", the UEFA president told French TV channel TF1.

"But for now, we don't know."

There has also been a talk of staging the 2022 World Cup in the winter because of the extreme heat Qatar experiences during the summer months.
