Newcastle United have confirmed that Tim Krul is in line to face Leicester City on Saturday after further scans revealed his elbow injury to be "very minor".

The Netherlands international, who picked up the injury during training with his national squad at the weekend, returned to Newcastle before the Oranje’s 2-0 loss to Iceland in a 2016 European Championship qualifier on Monday.

Initially it was thought that Krul has suffered ligament damage to his left shoulder, and as a result the 26-year-old was expected to miss the Magpies’ clash against the Foxes at St James' Park.

However, further tests showed that the custodian’s injury is not as severe as first feared.

"Tim Krul has been further assessed today [Wednesday] by the club's medical staff and the club can confirm that he has nothing more than a very minor elbow injury”, a statement on the club’s official site read.

"The club will continue to monitor the situation but are confident that he will be available for the game against Leicester City on Saturday."

Krul’s availability will serve as a vital boost for Newcastle United, who are yet to win a Premier League game this season and currently find themselves 18th in the standings with just four points from seven outings.
