Argentina and Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia has claimed that Real Madrid wanted to buy him in the dying hours of the summer transfer window.

Biglia gave some eye catching performances in Argentina’s run to the World Cup final and AC Milan were believed to be keen to sign him after the tournament.

However, the Argentine claimed that Real Madrid contacted him in the last few hours of the window. He added that Los Blancos wanted to sign him as a replacement for Xabi Alonso, who joined Bayern Munich late in the transfer window.

But he knew that Lazio were never going to sell him so late in the transfer window so he decided to remain in Italy.

“They had serious interest and it was very specific”, the Argentine told Het Laatste Nieuws.
