Roma want to follow up their capture of Ashley Cole this summer by bagging another English full-back next summer in the shape of Liverpool's Glen Johnson.

Cole ended a lengthy association with Chelsea at the end of last season and headed to Italy, linking up with Roma and has continually expressed his delight about the switch.

Now the Giallorossi are keen on bagging another English full-back and have set their sights on Johnson, with a lucrative contract offer prepared.

Roma, who know Johnson's contract with Liverpool expires at the end of this season, are ready to pay the defender €3.5m per year, according to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia.

The former Portsmouth defender is thought to want €1m more per season from Roma, but the Giallorossi are convinced a €3.5m offer will tempt him into negotiations.

Liverpool have yet to show their hand on a contract renewal for Johnson, while the defender is also sure to have other suitors from England and across Europe.

On the pitch, the England international has seen his start to the current campaign interrupted by injury.
