Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that he has been impressed with Aston Villa’s start to the season, ahead of his side’s meeting with the Villains at Goodison Park tomorrow.

Despite losing their last three games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City respectively, Paul Lambert’s side find themselves in 10th spot in the Premier League with 10 points from seven games, four points and seven places ahead of the Toffees.

And Martinez feels Aston Villa, who have recorded impressive away victories over Stoke City and Liverpool this season, also put in notable performances in the games they lost.

“I think we’ve seen this season that they’ve got an outstanding away record and I think their start has been impressive”, the Spaniard explained to his club’s official site.

“They have got two incredible away victories against Liverpool and Stoke, and also some impressive performances where they probably didn’t get the results they deserved.”

Last season Everton edged out Villa 2-1 at Goodison Park, courtesy of two late strikes from Steven Naismith and Kevin Mirallas.

And Martinez is aware that his side need to be at their best if they want a similar result this term.

“Last year at Goodison we had a really exciting, close game against them and we know we’ll have to be at our best to win.”
