Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has indicated that the club are interested in Borussia Dortmund’s attacking midfielder Marco Reus.

Over the summer the Bavarians and Dortmund engaged in a war of words regarding the future of the 25-year-old German international after Rummenigge spilled the beans on the release clause in Reus’ contract.

The Germany international’s contract with Dortmund contains a clause which will allow him to leave the club next summer for a set fee of between €25m and €35m.

Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid have all been linked with a move for Reus and Dortmund are desperate to have the clause removed from his contract.

And now Rummenigge admits that Bayern Munich are naturally interested in the German international, though he said that the club have not discussed the matter at length internally.

“If a German international has a release clause, Bayern are obliged to think about him”, the club CEO told Sport 1.

“Marco Reus’ release clause is known and whether we take advantage of the situation is something I cannot predict today. We have had every little internal discussion on this matter."

He also added that Dortmund are desperately trying to make the playmaker sign a new contract, but said that the decision on his future ultimately rests with Reus.

“Of course they will try to renew his contract and I can also imagine that other top clubs are also interested in signing Reus.

“But at the end, the decision rests with the player on where he wants to play and it should be respected.”
