Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has revealed that he intends to step down from his post after the 2016 European Championship.

The 63-year-old, who took charge of the Spanish national team in 2008, has guided La Roja to the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship success.

However, his side endured a disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil in the summer as they were eliminated from the group stage of the competition.

Spain have also made an unconvincing start to their 2016 European Championship campaign by losing one of their three games thus far.

But Del Bosque, who explained that he wishes to remain the Iberian nation’s manager until the continental competition in France, further added that he wants to be involved in some capacity in the Spanish Football Federation after he steps down from his post.

“In life you cannot be certain of anything. But yes, that is my intention, to continue until France in 2016 and leave after”, he told Spanish daily AS.

“Also, in my case, the Federation will have to make a smooth transition, but I will stay close to football and to the Federation.”
