West Ham striker Diafra Sakho is nicknamed "the fireman" by his team-mates, on account of nearly burning his house down.

Sakho, who joined the Hammers from French side Metz in the summer transfer window, shares a building with fellow new arrivals Enner Valencia and Cheikhou Kouyate.

And all were on the receiving end when Sakho decided he could kill two birds with one stone by making an afternoon snack and having a shower at the same time.

However, the striker miscalculated and soon Valencia and Kouyate were joining him in standing outside their building as a fire alarm chirped.

Sakho, who was nicknamed "the fireman" after the incident, explained to L'Equipe, smiling: "I wanted to prepare an afternoon snack while I took my shower.

"The entire building, home to other Hammers such as Enner Valencia and Cheikhou Kouyate, was evacuated.

"It was a bit of a panic!"

On the pitch Sakho has also caused panic, but this time with opposing defenders. The 24-year-old has so far bagged four goals in five Premier League games, while also striking in the League Cup.

And the Senegal international credits West Ham co-owner David Sullivan for his arrival at Upton Park.

"It is only through the will of David Sullivan that I am here", he revealed.
