Liverpool defender Glen Johnson is keen for the Reds to beat QPR to send them into a high-profile Champions League match against Real Madrid on Wednesday in the best possible shape.

The Reds have stuttered in their Champions League campaign so far this term, needing a last-minute penalty to beat Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets at Anfield, while they then put in an insipid performance to lose at Basel.

A visit from Real Madrid to Anfield cranks matters up a notch, but Johnson knows focus is first needed on QPR, who face Liverpool today.

"I have always said that we have to take the next week or the next game as the priority", the right-back told his club's site.

"We have to make sure we win at the weekend and then we can concentrate on Madrid", Johnson concluded.
