Louis van Gaal says he is no respecter of reputations and players must earn a spot in his Manchester United side.

The former Netherlands boss has been grappling with an injury crisis since the start of the season and as a result was forced to draft in young defenders Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair.

The injury crisis at Old Trafford is now easing, much to Van Gaal's relief. But the Dutchman is reluctant to say that will lead to a reshaping of his side.

"When you mention [Wayne] Rooney, [Michael] Carrick and [Phil] Jones, of course they are great football players but we have more great football players and sometimes the other football players are doing better", he explained via his club's site.

"Nobody is walking back into my team, believe me", Van Gaal explained.

"You have to earn it on the training ground, but every player knows that. Believe me, it is not only [about] the name. Our youngest player McNair was outstanding in our last match"

Manchester United, who have won their last two matches, take on West Brom at the Hawthornes tomorrow evening.

Victory for the Red Devils would move them on to 14 points and into fourth spot in the Premier League; they sit sixth after the weekend's results.
