Lionel Messi moved to within two goals of becoming La Liga's all-time top scorer last night after he hit the back of the net against Eibar.

The Camp Nou faithful were forced to wait until the hour mark for Barcelona to open the scoring, when Xavi struck to give the hosts the lead.

Neymar added a second in the 72nd minute before Messi drifted through the Eibar defence just two minutes later to hit his 250th La Liga goal.

Messi is now just one goal behind the record of former Athletic Bilbao striker Telmo Zarra, who scored 251 goals across the 1940s and 1950s.

Messi is now set up perfectly to break the record when Barcelona travel to face Real Madrid in El Clasico next weekend.
