Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has explained that he may go five or six matches without scoring a goal or providing an assist this season due to his new midfield role at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard, who joined the Blues from Barcelona in the summer, scored his maiden Premier League goal for his new employers in their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The former Arsenal player has been a revelation since signing for Chelsea, and has already scored two goals and provided eight assists in 10 games in all competitions.

However Fabregas, who has been deployed in a deeper midfield role by Jose Mourinho, feels he could go on a barren run during some part of the season.

But the 27-year-old was quick to add that he is more proud of Chelsea’s battling display at Selhurst Park than his own personal triumphs.

“Now I am playing deeper in midfield there will be moments during the season when maybe I go five or six games without a goal or an assist, and I am more proud about the team work, the discipline, the way we coped with the sending off, than my goals or my assists”, Fabregas told his club’s official site.

“I give those to other people to talk about.”
