Louis van Gaal has urged his Manchester United side to maintain their level of performance for the entire 90 minutes of games.

Manchester United can return to the top four if they can register a win against West Brom later tonight at the Hawthorns.

The Red Devils have won three competitive games since Van Gaal took over this summer and a win later tonight would see them win three games back-to-back for the first time this year.

Even though the twin home wins against West Ham and Everton allowed them to climb up the table, the Dutchman feels Manchester United still need to be more consistent with their performance over the course of an entire game.

"It is always the performance that counts, but the performance always goes up and down", Van Gaal told the BBC.

"Against Everton we could not say it was very good. The first 60 minutes, maybe, but a game lasts 90 minutes.”

Although points are important, the Manchester United manager still wants his side to perform better and enact his vision on the pitch with more consistency.

"I don't think points are very important in the process. It's the game, it's the style, it's the formation, it's the philosophy that we have to judge and not the points.

"The points are coming when we are playing good, and not only good for 60 minutes, but 90 minutes."

A win against West Brom later this evening would also be Manchester United’s first away victory of the season.
