Luis Suarez admits that he believed that Barcelona would back out of the deal to buy him from Liverpool after the biting incident in the World Cup.

Suarez was banned from football for four months by FIFA after he was involved in a biting incident with Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the tournament in Brazil.

Barcelona bought the Uruguayan forward from Liverpool this summer in a big money move, but Suarez admits that immediately after the incident he felt that he had "ruined his career" and would not get his dream switch.

The former Liverpool man admits that he was in denial mode after the incident, but said that he felt better after he offered his apologies for his behaviour in the World Cup.

“I felt I had ruined my career”, Suarez told TV3

“Initially I pretended that I knew nothing. I locked myself with my family but later I felt liberated after I apologised for my behaviour.”

The striker admits that during the World Cup he knew that his agent was negotiating a deal with Barcelona and he feels grateful towards the club that they kept their faith in his abilities.

He added that he believed that the Catalan giants would back out of the deal after the controversy in the World Cup.

“By then contact was made by Barcelona and as Pere [Guardiola, my agent] told me that the deal was done,

"I began to mourn the situation he was in and the support that the club were offering. I felt happy by the commitment the club showed towards me.

“I was afraid that they would back off after the incident and I was aware that it could happen.”

Suarez is slated to make his competitive debut for Barcelona against Real Madrid next Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
