Derby County defender Cyrus Christie has revealed that his team are aiming to keep a certain amount of clean sheets in the Championship this season, to help them on the road to success.

Their 3-0 win against Reading this weekend was part of Derby's feat of having kept five clean sheets in a row, lifting them up to second position in the league table; it also puts them on course to equal a club record six in a row, which dates back over 100 years.

It was also a special achievement for the Rams, according to the 22-year-old, as he believes that this will enable the side to win more matches as his team are otherwise lethal on the attacking front.

Steve McClaren's team in fact boast of enjoying the best overall goal difference in the league and are on the lookout to improve on that against Blackpool tonight.

"You can build on clean sheets", Christie told his club's official site.

"That’s what every team wants to do, you have seen it in past seasons, the teams that keep the most clean sheets go up.

"We are on course to go on and reach the aim of the amount of clean sheets we are targeting.

"If we keep doing that, there is no reason why we can’t win the games because we can score for fun.

“That would be a good record, but I think that will be at the back of peoples mind about trying to break that record.

“The mentality from the lads going into games is keep the clean sheets because we know we can break teams apart."
