Leeds United are leading a trio of clubs who are interested in a loan deal for Slovenian international Josip Ilicic, who plies his trade for Fiorentina in Serie A.

The 26-year-old joined Fiorentina from Palermo last summer, but failed to nail down a spot in the starting eleven at his new club last season.

The Slovenian playmaker has only made two league starts in the new campaign and it is believed that he is looking for a change of scenery in the winter transfer window.

Sassuolo are ready to take the 26-year-old from Fiorentina, keeping him in Italy, while Freiberg are also maintaining a keen interest in the attacking midfielder.

However, Championship side Leeds United are keeping a close eye on Ilicic and might make a loan move for him in January, according to Tutto Mercato.

The presence of compatriot Darko Milanic in the Leeds United dugout might swing the pendulum towards the Championship side.

Liverpool were also interested in the midfielder before he joined Fiorentina last summer and it remains to be seen whether they choose to rekindle their interest in the Slovenian.

Ilicic has scored eight goals in 38 appearances for Fiorentina and has also earned 26 international caps for Slovenia.
