Louis van Gaal still believes Manchester United can overtake Chelsea in the Premier League title race.

Daley Blind scored a late equaliser to earn a point for the Red Devils against West Brom at the Hawthorns last night, with the game finishing as a 2-2 draw.

Manchester United missed out on the opportunity to get back into the top four and are currently sitting in sixth in the league table on 12 points.

The Red Devils will next host Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday and though ten points adrift from the league leaders in the early stages of the campaign, Van Gaal still feels they have it in them to topple the Blues for the title this term.

“It is possible that we will still overtake Chelsea”, the Dutchman was quoted as saying by Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur.

The 20-time English champions will next take on the Blues and arch-rivals Manchester City in back-to-back games and Van Gaal feels that it is only a matter of time until they can reach the same level as the current top two in the league.

He also emphasised the importance of playing entertaining football that will please both fans and purists alike.

“Chelsea and Manchester City are on a different level but it is just a matter of time before we attain the same level. I believe in it.

“I also think that football is played to entertain the fans and everyone should enjoy the game. But it is two points lost. I think we were the better team and I am very disappointed by the result.”

Manchester United’s winless run away from home in the league has stretched to six games, their worst run since 1996.
