Newcastle United hitman Siem de Jong has confirmed that it will take another eight weeks for him to return to action from his injury.

The striker joined the Magpies this summer from Ajax for a transfer fee of £8m and was expected to be the club’s main man up front.

However, after only three appearances for his new club, the Dutchman suffered a thigh injury in training last month and was sidelined for a lengthy period of time.

De Jong confirmed that it will take another two months for him to complete his rehabilitation process and take the field for Newcastle.

“On my way back to Newcastle. Just saw the surgeon in London and all looks good”, the Dutchman said on Facebook.
