Stefan Johansen has emphasised the importance of the home support in Celtic’s bid to qualify for the knockout round of the Europa League.

Despite missing out on their initial goal to qualify for this season’s Champions League group stage, Celtic have done well so far in the Europa League.

Ronny Deila’s men are unbeaten in the Europa League thanks to their 2-2 draw away to Red Bull Salzburg and 1-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb at home.

And Johansen is hoping that Celtic Park will be roaring again when they host FC Astra on Thursday as he knows another win will consolidate their position in their group and will help them in their bid to qualify for the knockout round.

The Norwegian is aware that their last home fixture, a loss to Hamilton in a league game, was a disappointment, but feels that it is important for the fans to keep supporting the side.

“We want to go through in Europe and we know how important that game is, and hopefully the fans can back us up as it’s so important to do well at home”, the Johansen told Celtic View.

“It might be more difficult for the fans as we never got a good result in our last home game but I hope they stay behind the team and can help us get the victory.

“But they are very important for us, and have been so in Europe already this season, and hopefully there will be a lot of them to help us get through the game.”
