Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has explained that his side will take a cautious approach against Real Madrid in the Champions League tonight.

Los Blancos have already pumped in 30 goals in eight La Liga games this season, the highest in the Spanish league.

In addition, the reigning European champions have also found the back of the net seven times in two Champions League matches.

And Rodgers, who feels Real Madrid boast “the best attack in world football” currently, wants his side to approach the game with a clear-cut plan on how to negate the capital club’s strengths.

However, the manager was quick to add that Liverpool will not be short of confidence when they take the field against Carlo Ancelotti’s side at Anfield.

"You have to be mindful that they are arguably the best attack in world football at the moment, so you can't go gung-ho, that's for sure", Rodgers told his club’s official site.

"You have to have a real focused plan of how you deal with their strengths.

"And on the counter-attack they are absolutely clinical. We've seen that over the course of the last year or so.

“So there's no doubting the focus and the confidence about how we play the game, but there's no doubt that you have to respect their qualities as well.”

Liverpool have conceded 12 goals in eight Premier League fixtures this term and have failed to keep a clean sheet in their two Champions League outings.
