Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal’s belief in the value of youth will never diminish.

The legendary former Manchester United manager released his updated autobiography earlier this week and he has been nothing but glowing in his views of the "formidable" Dutch manager.

The Scot believes that Van Gaal is the ultimate football man who eats and sleeps the game. He is impressed by the way the former Barcelona manager immerses himself in training his players and respects his panache for playing free-flowing, attacking football.

"Louis, who took the job, is what I would call a managers' coach. He's one of these committed ultra-professionals. Football is his life”, Ferguson wrote in his autobiography.

"I like Louis and have always had a good rapport with him. If I had to choose one word for him it would be 'formidable'.

"His urge is to play attractive football. He likes to watch players play and players train and to be involved at all levels, including in the development of young players.”

Ferguson is also sure that given the Dutchman’s Ajax background, his faith in youth will never diminish a philosophy directly in line with Manchester United’s commitment towards developing homegrown talents.

"His background at Ajax shows that his faith in youth will not diminish.

"He was a good choice."
