Arsene Wenger feels that Arsenal's Champions League fate is now in their own hands after they squeezed past Anderlecht 2-1 this evening.

Arsenal struggled to get going in Brussels and fell behind in the second half, with Andy Najar striking in the 67th minute to shock the Gunners.

However, Arsenal never gave up hope on Wenger's birthday and got their reward when Kieran Gibbs drew them level in the 89th minute.

Lukas Podolski then ensured Arsenal would come through their Belgian test, the Germany international striking in injury time to hand the Gunners a 2-1 victory.

"It was vital for us to have a chance to qualify. We are in a strong position now. It's down to us now. Win our home games and we are through", Wenger told Sky Sports.

"The group is in our hands. Let's first qualify and see how far we can go."

Wenger also feels his side always had a chance to score late on against Anderlecht, pointing out many goals in the Champions League are scored in the dying minutes.

"It's a frustrating part of our job to fight for the final seconds. We know in the Champions League many goals are scored in the final five minutes", the Frenchman added.
