Young Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez believes he was solid on his Champions League debut for the Gunners last night.

Martinez was drafted into action with regular number one Wojciech Szczesny suspended and backup goalkeeper David Ospina injured.

He conceded a single goal as Arsenal grabbed a 2-1 win over Anderlecht away in Belgium to boost their chances of qualification from their group.

And the 22-year-old was pleased with his own performance, telling the club's site: "It was brilliant. It was nice and calm. I think I made two good saves, I was solid and I felt confident. That's what I needed. If you're not confident, you won't get anything."

Martinez also reflected on a loan stint at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday last term, which he feels helped to steel him for first team football with the Gunners.

"I've been working for years and my loan at Sheffield Wednesday gave me the confidence I needed", the custodian added.

Martinez joined Arsenal from Argentine side Independiente in 2010.
