Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen feels Real Madrid proved why they are the reigning Champions League winners, following Los Blancos' 3-0 triumph at Anfield last night.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side dished out a lesson to the Reds, who endured a difficult night in their own backyard.




Real Madrid opened the scoring through Cristiano Ronaldo in the 23rd minute before a Karim Benzema brace sealed the deal for the visitors before half-time.

And Allen, who admitted Real Madrid played like champions, believes his side need to improve on a number of aspects.
 


"It was very difficult”, he told the club’s official site.

"We were playing the champions and they certainly proved why they are champions.

Liverpool, who are next up against Hull City at Anfield on Saturday, are currently third in Group B of the Champions League with three points from three games.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have also experienced a stop-start beginning to their Premier League campaign and presently find themselves fifth in the standings with 13 points from eight outings.
