Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has extended the club's facilities to former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

The 32-year-old is continuing his rehabilitation from a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered at Barcelona last season and is a free agent following his departure from the Camp Nou.

He has been strongly linked with Liverpool in recent months, with the Reds plotting a move for the experienced goalkeeper, but Van Gaal's move would appear to put the Red Devils front and centre to complete his capture once he regains full fitness.

Manchester United announced: "Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has offered the 32-year-old former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes a chance to complete his rehabilitation from a knee injury and to work his way back to fitness with the club.

"Valdes, a free agent, will have his recovery supervised by the United medical staff before training with the first team, as he bids to regain full fitness."

Valdes, who chose not to renew his contract at Barcelona, can sign for any club outside the transfer window system due to his status as a free agent.
