Monaco striker Dimitar Berbatov is set to spend time on the sidelines after he suffered an injury last night in the Champions League.

The 33-year-old was taken off early in the first half against Benfica after he suffered an injury and the Monaco medical staff have confirmed that he injured a muscle in his left thigh.

The former Manchester United striker joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Fulham in January this year and scored six goals in 12 appearances for the club last season.

Following the departure of Radamel Falcao to Manchester United this summer, the Bulgarian is leading the line at Monaco and has scored twice this term.

However, he will be forced to spend time on the sidelines due to the latest injury and is expected to miss the next three league games for Monaco, along with their second Champions League clash with Benfica.
