Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has poured praise on Jack Grealish and backed the youngster to shine at Villa Park.

The 19-year-old, who recently signed a new four-year deal with the Villains, has thus far made just six appearances in all competitions for the club.

And Vlaar admitted that Grealish is far from a finished product yet, but he feels the highly-rated midfielder can go on to become a top player if he keeps working hard.

"Jack is great”, he told the club’s official site.

"He's very talented but obviously he's not there yet – he knows that and he realises that.

"It's great for him to get in and around the first team. I'm sure he's enjoying that experience.

"For him, it's about getting used to the speed of the Barclays Premier League and what's required at that top level.

"If he keeps working hard and progressing, he will be a great player."

Grealish, who is a product of Aston Villa’s youth set-up, spent the previous season on loan at Notts County, where he scored five goals and provided seven assists in 39 appearances.

The starlet is yet to earn a senior cap for Ireland, but has represented the nation at various youth levels.
