Louis van Gaal has dubbed Chelsea striker Diego Costa "remarkable" and expects Jose Mourinho to field him for the Blues if at all possible on Sunday.

Van Gaal's Manchester United are set to take on Mourinho's Chelsea in a Premier League clash at Old Trafford and the Portuguese is sweating on Costa.

Mourinho admitted today Costa has "a little chance" of playing, after continuing to struggle with a hamstring injury and being struck down by a virus in midweek.

And Van Gaal thinks the Chelsea boss will do all he can to field the prolific goalscorer, who is in red hot form.

"He will play with him when he can because Jose wants to win", Van Gaal told a press conference.

"He's scored nine goals in seven games – which is remarkable.

"So he's in good shape, but he was ill so you never know."

The Manchester United boss also admitted he respects Chelsea, who he views as "one of the top teams".

"Chelsea are one of the top teams, as are Manchester City at the moment. Jose has worked more than a year with his team and last year didn't win anything.

"You have to build up. They are playing like a team and we have to as well, but to play for 90 minutes."
