Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has urged his side to improve their defensive record ahead of their Premier League meeting with Hull City tomorrow.

The Reds, who succumbed to a 3-0 loss at the hands of Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, have now conceded 20 goals in 12 games in all competitions this season.

In addition, Liverpool have managed to keep just a solitary clean sheet in the current campaign, a 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in August.

And Rodgers, who admitted his side need to better themselves defensively, feels a total team effort is needed to attain that.

The manager further added that he was also not impressed with the manner in which Liverpool have been conceding “soft goals” this term.

“It needs to be better, that's for sure – as a team, not just the defence and goalkeeper. As a team we need to be better”, he explained at a press conference yesterday.

"We all pride ourselves on clean sheets but we need to more competitive and aggressive in those moments as a team.

"That was the disappointment against Real Madrid and also in the goals we have conceded, as a large number of them have been soft.

"It is our job to improve our record and it is something we'll continue to work on."
