Veteran Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has labelled 18-year-old striker James Wilson a "goal machine", predicting a bright future ahead for the England Under-19 international.

Wilson features regularly for the Red Devils Under-21 side and was in action last night against West Ham. The young striker scored the first goal of the game in an eventual 2-1 win for Manchester United, the other coming from fellow starlet Will Keane.

It was a game in which Carrick continued his comeback from an ankle injury, turning out for 64 minutes.

And he was once again impressed with Wilson, someone he feels has a natural instinct for scoring goals.

"He is just a goal machine. He's like that in training and scores all the time", Carrick explained to MUTV.

"It's a great habit to have, something I wish I had! He's just a natural."

The midfielder admits he even struggled to call the piece of play Wilson scored from against West Ham a goalscoring "chance", with the striker creating the opportunity for himself.

"It wasn't even a chance for his goal, he created a yard for himself and put it in the bottom corner.

"He probably feels he should have had another goal or two but both front boys deserved the goals because they were terrific", Carrick added.
