Hull City manager Steve Bruce believes his side were good value for their 0-0 draw away at Liverpool today and has praised the Anfield crowd for their own performance throughout the Premier League game.

The Reds were expected to bounce back from a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek, but struggled to get going from the off.

Dejan Lovren had an effort comfortably cleared off the line in the first half, while Tom Huddlestone struck a dangerous shot for Hull before the break.

The Reds dominated possession through the second half, pushing forward especially in the final 20 minutes, and had a number of chances, Mario Balotelli blasting wide, while Steven Gerrard fizzed a shot just past the post.

Balotelli then had another chance at the death, but failed to make contact with the ball from six yards out. It was not to be and Liverpool saw their lacklustre start to the season continue with a 0-0 draw.

Bruce though felt that, aside from a few chances, Liverpool did not really do much to test his goalkeeper.

"We arguably had the best chance in the first half", he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"There wasn't much in it at all and I really can't remember my goalkeeper..he made one terrific save…but after that they were all matter of fact saves.

"The one thing about the crowd here, the history and the tradition, they never really get on their backs. Yes, they go quiet, but they stay with them and they were terrific."

And Bruce expressed his relief at Hull hanging on in for a draw.

"Thankfully today we've seen it through, which was good to see."
