West Ham midfielder Alex Song has saluted his side's 2-1 win over champions Manchester City at Upton Park today and revealed the plan was to go after Manuel Pellegrini's men from the off.

The Hammers took the lead in the 21st minute through Morgan Amalfitano, who took advantage of an Enner Valencia cut-back to prod the ball home.

They had to wait until the 75th minute to double their lead when Diafra Sakho headed an Aaron Cresswell cross into the back of the net, though Manchester City instantly hit back through a curling David Silva shot just two minutes later.

Manchester City hit the bar twice in the game, but West Ham held on for the win, leaving Song delighted.

"We are doing well at the moment and we wanted to continue that today. We started well against Liverpool [when we beat them] and that was the plan again today. We played together, we worked together and we won together", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

The midfielder, who is on loan from Barcelona, also stressed the impact the club's numerous summer signings have had on morale.

"When the new players arrived in the summer we were all given a very good welcome and you can see that on the training ground. The spirit is high and we are really enjoying it", he added.
