Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal have been dominating matches and are only paying the price for brief moments of defensive weakness.

The Gunners, who lock horns with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light later today, have only won two of their eight Premier League games so far.

Already the Gunners are eleven points behind league leaders Chelsea and alarm bells are ringing for some of the club's fans.

But Wenger believes his side have produced dominant performances this term.

"We dominate our games. It is just when we have a weaker moment we pay for it. That is why I think we have to produce more effort defensively as a team", he said via his club's site.

"We could be more efficient offensively and defensively, but that will come. I can understand that better because there are players who are new.

"I think as well we are never for a long time in positions where we have the lead, we are always chasing back. Of course that makes it more difficult offensively", the Frenchman added.

And Wenger believes that his team are close to hitting their best, with only a small improvement needed to push the Gunners to boiling point.

"I think 95 per cent is there. It is normal that after a World Cup, and [when you] have new players.

"You see the main thing is there: the attitude, the quality. But the water boils at 100 degrees and not at 99, and we have to add that degree", Wenger concluded.
